v2.5:installation_troubleshooting [2012/02/05 18:32] (current)
michael_s added configure.php writable error
Line 18: Line 18:

+== The installer cannot create your configure.php files. Permissions are incorrect on several directories! ==
 +
+You will see this error on step 3 of the installer. If you see it, it means that the installer has detected that your /includes and /admin/includes directories will not allow it to write the configure.php files. Without the ability to do this, the installation cannot continue.
 +
+Luckily, this is an easy problem to resolve. All you will need to do is open an FTP client on your computer and connect via FTP to your hosting account or alternately use the file manager usually provided in your hosting account's control panel to change the permissions on those two directories.
 +
+If you use an ftp client, once connected to your hosting account, go to the directory where you have installed osCmax files and find the /includes sub directory. Right click the directory and in the context menu that pops up, select 'Permissions' or 'Chmod' or possibly some other option that indicates permissions administration. If you are unable to find the right section in your FTP client, use its included help file to find where the feature is located and how to use it (usually found in the 'Help' menu).
 +
+When you locate the right place in your FTP client, all you want to do is change the number if it is lower than 755 to 755. If it is already 755, change it to 777.
 +
+Repeat the same steps for the /admin/includes sub directory.
 +
+Once you have changed both to either 755 or 777 (always make sure they both set to the same permissions level otherwise you will cause yourself unnecessary grief) go back to the installer in your web browser and reload the page that was giving you the error. It should no longer display an error, but show a form with a bunch of fields for you to fill in. Time to continue your installation!
 +
+If after changing the permissions to 755 and reloading the installer page, you still get the same error, change the permissions on both directories to 777 and reload the page. You should no longer see the error and can continue with the installation.
 +
+If after changing the permissions to 777 and reloading the installer page, you still get the same error, something is wrong! Go to the osCmax forums for help: http://www.oscmax.com/forums/
